It usually quite confusing buying new strings so here’s my recommended strings for TENOR size ukuleles. These strings are made using Aquila Nylgut which is denser than nylon and sound great. Give yourself the best possible chance to make your ukulele sound sweet.

If you are looking for quality strings for your ukulele banjo then these are what you are looking for. They use Aquila's New Nylgut which is denser than nylon and has similar tonal qualities to real gut strings. The fact of the matter is that they sound good and are robust – just what you need for your ukulele banjo.

If you are looking for a high quality new ukulele banjo then the Ashbury AB-48 is a good choice and very affordable. I've seen these going for over £400 so it's a good price here. It has a mahogany resonator and rim, a brass tone ring and 16 tension hooks which is a good sign of quality. I don't think you can go far wrong with an Ashbury AB-48.

This tuner is pretty robust and easy to use. It has the added bonus of being able to tune chromatically or for specific instruments – I use guitar, bass and ukulele (C and D) but it also does violin. I changed the battery in mine after about 6 months – typically these type of gadgets benefit from having a quality battery.

If you are looking for a versatile set of good quality banjo strings for you 5 string banjo then these are what you're looking for. I've tried cheaper ones in the past and ended up snapping strings while tuning them up for the first time. Very annoying! Avoid by spending a little more!

The DigiTech FS3X Foot Controller is useful when used with my DigiTech TRIO Plus. You get much more control with a footswitch when practicing or playing live. It's not expensive, so just buy it – you won't regret it!

As a guitarist I enjoy playing along to backing tracks but that is limited to what's available so the Digitech Trio answers that by enabling you to create your own backing with bass and drums. This one also has a looper so you can really get creative. Just play your backing chords, choose your genre/style and the machine does the rest! Headphones compatible! I would recommend buying the Digitech FS3X Foot Controller to control it.

I use this Ditto looper mainly at home for practicing. You can have a lot of fun with 5 minutes of looping time and unlimited overdubs. With the Ditto Looper X2 you can play loops in reverse, half-speed or both at the same time. You can use it live too with a bit of practice. If you are looking for a looper then this is the one in my opinion. There is a cheaper model available if it's not in your budget.

When it comes to a banjo strap the best in my opinion is one that clips on to the brackets. It allows you to remove the strap easily if you want to sit down and play without it. This strap is strong and not too expensive. Other options would be to go for leather one but that comes at a price.
