Walking for charity

I have participated in three Ultra Challenges to date, namely London to Cambridge Challenge and The Cotswold Way Challenge and the Peak District Challenge. These are tough 100km / 62 mile walks in about 24 hours.

So far I have managed to raise over £1,700 for Cancer Research, thanks to my kind sponsors, and this year I’ll be raising money for The Hospice in the Weald.

I’ll be training to get myself ready for the challenge, so if you’d like to join me on a training walk of between 10-25 miles please let me know!

2016 London to Cambridge Challenge

This was my first Ultra Challenge and began in East London, by the Olympic Park in aid of Cancer Research raising over £700. We followed the River Lee for the first 30km on the towpath beside the river. At the half way point we had a hot meal, before moving on to smaller footpaths and trails, crossing little brooks and wild flower meadows. Continuing on through the rolling farmland, we passed through villages and countryside until the 78km point. From there, we were on a pavement route through to near Grantchester at 94km, returning to the footpath alongside the river Cam leading in to Cambridge!

2017 Cotswold Way Challenge

2017 Cotswold Way Challenge

My second Ultra Challenge started in Bath at the Royal Crescent. It was quite congested getting out of Bath with so many participants grouped together on town footpaths. Once we got out in to the countryside we soon made up time. The Cotswold Way crosses areas of outstanding natural beauty, with fantastic panoramic views and picturesque villages.

62 miles or 100km later with a few hills en route – it’s over the finish line in Cheltenham. This was a tough challenge with the hilly terrain but we made it!

2019 Peak District Challenge

My 2019 challenge was the Peak District Challenge – walking 62 miles or 100 km in the Peak District National Park. The Base Camp was in Bakewell. The route is 100km taking a tough and varied figure of 8 route through Derbyshire’s finest scenery and Peaks.

The weather was good and we managed to finish the challenge in about 25 hours.
